Since ancient times,three gorges area has been the geographical corridor, cultural corridor and migrating corridor ofYangtze river basin. It describes waterchannels ---"from Yichang to Kuifu", "from Kuifu toChongqing", "from Chongqing to Kuifu" and "from Kuifu toYichang “with text and pictures, and it is the first Chinese systematic waterchannels picture ,which is of great value in shipping , publishing and theresearch on historical geography.

Three Gorges Projectis the cohesion of Chinese nation's dream of a hundred years! In the 1920's,Sun Yat-sen had an imagination of building dams in the yangtze three gorges inhis book--《the general plan of founding the state andindustry plan》.In republican period, nationalgovernment put a lot of effects in Three Gorges Project. From 1944 to 1947, afamous water-power engineering expert doctor John Lucian Savage from Americanfinished the first engineering plan of Three Gorges Dam in therequirements of national government, which is known as "John Lucian SavagePlan".This two precious pictures witnessed the working scenes when John Lucian Savage was making surveys in Three Gorges by shipand when designers were discussing the  project work of Three Gorges inDenver ,American. This is the initial Three Gorges planning report made byAmerican Interior bureau of reclamation, which was the first time that Three GorgesProject was showed in scientific documents and drawings .

Since ancient times,Yangtze river basin was often struck by flood. Since the last region of han dynasty until now,there would be a big flood almost every ten years.These historic photos and tabular data show us the conditions of five grandscaleflood disasters happened in Republic era and early days of new China. Howto settle the problem of Jingjiang River , reduce the damage caused by floodand protect life and property security of  people downstream became apriority in new chinese leaders＇s mind.1953, Mao Zedong had aspecial discussion with the director from  Yangtze RiverWater Conservancy Commission--- Lin Yishan about problems such asSouth-to-North Water Diversion Project, Three-gorge-dam Project and theplanning for Yangtze river basin on ship “Yangtze River", especially theproblem of preventing the flood. In 1956, Mao Zedong payed a visit to Yangtze River and wrote the famous poem 《 prelude to water melody ---swimming》,whose words---"standing on Xijiang stone walls which cut off rain cloudsover Wuhan, I can see the beauty of Gao Xia out of Pinghu" draw up themagnificent blueprint of building Three Gorges Project, and the project was puton the schedule again.

All the pictures in the exhibiting wallreflect the previous working scenes when party and state leaders are makingresearch on reservoir area , when the Three Gorges Project was being constructedand when the immigrates were moving.

From 1958 when thefirst file about Three Gorges Project 《theadvice on Three Gorges Hydro Project and Changjiang River Basin planning fromthe Central Committee of CPC》came out to 1991.08 when 《the feasibility research report of Three Gorges Project》 was passed ,Three Gorges Project has gone through 33 years＇s scientific verifications totally.

There are two plansin the proposal and  demonstration of Three Gorges Project .One is the well-known"175 meters plan ",which was finally put into practice. The other is"150 meters plan "approved by State Council in 1984.

According to the"150 meters plan", the area between 150 meters to 160.7 meters ofreservoir would be flooded if the flood safety discharging of  JingjiangRiver happened every 20 years be guaranteed. When it came to shipping ,onlypart of navigation channel of Chuanjiang River under Pealing can be improved.

After the projectcame into effect, it had received comments and suggestions from ChongqingMunicipal government of CPC and the people of all circles. In order to fullyreflect the scientificity and democracy of the decision, CPC centralcommittee and state council decide to put forward a feasible report of Three GorgesProject proposed by experts in different fields gathered together by institute of water resources and power after askingfor opinions widely. In 1989.09, the construction plan of normal storage waterlevel 175 meters and "first-class development, one-stage completion,by-stage impoundment, constant immigration" was settled.

In 1992.04.04,《resolutionof building Three Gorges Project》 was finally passedafter on-site votes in 7th National People's Congress fifth meeting, as aresult of 1767 yes, 177 no and 664 voters abstained. On your left hand ,weplayback the historic meeting scene.

In 1994.12.14, Lipeng premier declared the officialcommencement of Three Gorges Project. The transportation cost of ship is cut down more thanone-third, and ten-thousand-tonnage fleets can arrive in Qiongqing fromShanghai directly, making Yangtze River the genuine goldenwaterway.

Just as what ismentioned above, gorges migrants project is the priority among priorities ofThree Gorges Project, so whether the immigrant can succeed can decide whether Three Gorges Project can succeed.

To explore a new way to settle the problem of moving and settlingof millions immigrants, party and state leaders proposed a new resettlementpolicy---"development policy" based on the lessons learned fromChinese tasks of the immigration and the practice of eight years reservoirmigration experiments, which pays importance to combining the migrationsettlement with the economic development of reservoir, and at the same time, promote self-developmentability of immigrants.1993,  the State Council issued 《the construction and immigration rules ofYangtze three gorge project》,which is the firstregulatory document aiming at large reservoir resettlement of water conservancyand hydropower engineering, and it proposes that we should protect the lawfulrights of immigrates and make the immigration work follow legal system orbit toreach the goal of "moving successfully, standing steadily and becomingrich gradually". In order to make the immigrants become rich steadily andprotect the environment and ecology of reservoir, in1999.05,"twoadjustments "were made to developimmigrates policy of Three GorgesProject, which contains the emigration resettlement policy of 19.6 tenthousands rural immigrants and the policy of flooded copper miners forcombining the settlement with structure changes.2001.02.15, State Councilproposed and reviewed the 《the construction andimmigration rules of yangtze three gorge project》,whichwould guide the settlement work.

Just now, we know something about the origin of Three GorgesProject and policy of three Gorges immigration. Now, we will move into thesecond part of the exhibition "great deed, millions of immigrates”,which will play back the progress of three Gorges immigration for you.

The resettlement work of three-gorges engineering migrationcontains rural immigrants resettlement, industrial and mining enterprisesrelocation,  market town relocation and professional servicerehabilitation and extra. Among all theimmigrations of big water and water power projects at home and abroad ,threegorges reservoir area is distinguished for the large scale relocation ofindustry and mining enterprises. The flooded reservoirs concerns 1632 industries and miningenterprises in Hubei and Chongqing province. Under the wave of immigration,Taiji company, Peiling zhacai company , Shixian Taibai company ,Xinfa company and ChongqingJiangdong mechanical limited liability company caught the opportunities,promoted the reform, adjusted the industrial structure and created a new way for developing.In a dozen years, three gorges reservoir area formed a group of powerfullarge-scale enterprises, improved the problem of lacking industrial support inreservoir area and added more energy to it.

As water going up to 175 meters , many old towns disappeared underwater. Burdened with the memory of old towns , the building of new towns beganlike a raging fire. The simulative scenes with sample scaffolding in front of you show the previousscenes that the new towns were built and constructed. On the two sides of thehall is the reconstruction work of reservoir area roads, port and pier ,electricity , water and gas. After ten years＇sconstruction ,the infrastructure in reservoir area such as transportation, electricity,communication and radio and televisions were greatly improved, whichcontributed to the economic and social development in reservoir greatly.

In 2008.08,Three Gorges IV migration work obtained the national phased acceptance. So far, there are 129.64 ten thousandsof people moved and settled. The relocation of 2 cities ,10 towns ,and 106small towns in flooded area was finished and the 175 meters water-reservingcondition was well met.

Immigrating from Three Gorges area is difficult, so why it is ?Faced with the world-class problem, how can the government help the immigrants solve it ? In order to know more about these problems, let us move on tothe third part---"join hands and solve problems"

Immigrating from Three Gorges area is difficult, lt is not only because ofthe number ,but also because the wide range of migrants ,the lack ofenvironmental capacity, the long period of time, the complex contradiction and no ripen experience to follow. In this arduous  million immigrants war, central collectiveleadership prize to value it highly and emigrants of reservoir region aresensible and considerate. The leaders of the migration make personal sacrificesfor the public good and the whole nation give a helping hand. We work togetherand solve the problem eventually.

To make sure thatThree Gorges Project be constructed smoothly ,migrants settle properlyand promote the economic development of  southwest, in 1997.03.14, 8th thefifth meeting of National People's Congress deliberated and passed the motion aboutsetting up Chongqing municipality ,which is put forward by statecouncil. In 1997.06.08, Chongqing municipality was established, becoming thefourth national municipality after Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.

As an old saying goes: “It is difficult to leave their homeland, difficultto drop family properties and difficult to apart from provincialism." To make the century-old dream become anreality, millions of migrants  sacrificed their own benefits in order toshow consideration for the nation , displaced from their homes and bidfarewells to where they were growing.

In 2015.05.14, the first external immigrant workwas launched in Chongqing and 211 families and 1000 migrants moved from Yunyang Guling town  to JiangsuRudong town.Early in the morning, relatives and friends waited in the port tosee off migrants. When the siren sounded, declaring the sailing ofthe ship, all of them could not dare to leave and weeped disconsolately. Whenthe ship was to leaving ,the migrants asked a favor of the captain: please letthe ship go around the  mountain and water three times. The captainpromised with tears. The whole ship became quite in a flash, men , women andchildren knelt on the deck, worshiping for the hometown. The sound of rhythmic"dong, dong ,dong..."lasted for a long time. On the shore,the relatives and friendsstood on their toes and put up their hands, seeing the ship disappearing in thedistance. Seeing the ship was further, a dog fed by one of the migrants startedto bark anxiously "Wang, Wang ,Wang..."and chased after the shipalong the shore until the ship disappeared.

All of them are just the millions ofthe gorge immigrants in miniature. As a external migrant Weitai from Wangzhou, who is in age of 65 wrote in 《loveof separation 》---"love of separation, love ofseparation, it is hard to leave when it is time to separate native generations and kindneighbors. We separate happily. “Those modest sentences show the inner voicesof three Gorges migrants who had to leave their homeland.

The nature of Three Gorges is soul-stirring. In order not to delay the immigration work, the leaders ofimmigration spared no efforts in it and some of them even sacrificed theirlives.

Ye yuancai, the partybranch secretary of Yunyang Gaoyan town in Chongqing, dived into theimmigration work without drawback after knowing that he was diagnosed withadvanced gastric cancer. When dying, his only requirement was that he wanted to be buried in the 175meters water line in the three georges reservoir, so he can see the immigratingway and witness the three georges reservoir becoming better and better after hedied.

Feng chunyang, theHead Admin in Wuhan Chongqing ,is a monument that cannot be washed away byflood.2001.08,Feng Chunyang was washed away be a sudden flood and died at hispost when hurrying to Qingyun town to do immigration work. And this day is just4 days before he can retire and enjoy his old age.

To make sure that theimmigration work go on practicably and effectively, the leaders of immigrationworked day and night, cross mountains and river , visited one house after anotherand publicized the immigration work reasonably. They conducted careful andmeticulous immigration work ,thus receiving wide recognitions from migrants.The picture in the wall shows the working scene of emigrants leaders ofreservoir region. In the center showcase is displayed with theworking papers and items of those leaders.

In the spectacular  wave of history, the working together team spiritsis the guarantee of immigration work.

In 1992.03,general office of the state councilproposed the 《the notice for the immigrationwork in three gorges reservoir area》In 1993.06, lining upand supporting the Migration Settlements was written into 《the migrants construction rules of yangtze threegorge project》as policy measures.

This showcasedisplays the vase given by Fujian government to support the partner-assistance city--Hangzhouwhen Xi Jingping was the captain of Fujian, and the letter from Xi when he wasgoing to be the party secretary of Shanhai and responding letter written byWangzhou government.

Party centralcommittee and state council call on 59 national departments and institutions,20 provinces and 10 cities to promote pairing-assistance migration work ofThree Gorges Project.Taking the construction of Three Gorges Project as theirown duty ,the whole nation formed a vivid condition----working together to"play the chess of migration work well and solve the problems".

"living under Qutang in the three gorges never gets worried thoughsuffered from wind and waves frequently. During the migration process, thehard-working , tough and brave personality of people in Three Gorges Reservoirare fully showed. The most of migrants regarded distant land as homelandand composed a song of victory with their dependent and fighting personalityand efforts and devotion despite all the difficulties in a new environment. Xiong Deguo and Ran Aiping are advanced individuals of migrants.

Ever since ThreeGorges Project has been constructed, preservation of cultural relicsand eco-environment construction aroused wide concern at home and abroad. Now ,we are moving on to thefourth part of the exhibition room---" environmental cultural relics,sustainable development”, and see what the government had done to make surethat cultural relics and ecological environmental protection achieve the goalof sustainable development.

As the birthplace ofyangtze civilization, three gorges area has rich cultural relics .According tothe investigation, preservation project of cultural relics in three gorgesreservoir area has 1078, including 364 land-based projects and 723 undergroundprojects. In 1997, the government started the cultural relics protection andsaving work in three gorges reservoir area. Under the direction of theprinciple "protection the first ,saving the first" and "keyprotection ,key excavation", in the past dozen years ,1087 heritage items ofcultural relics conservation plan in three gorges reservoir area have beenprotected properly after all the efforts of  antiquarians. In this wallplays back the old scenes,. which shows the working scene ofarchaeology site, we can see the remarkable results made in the preservation ofcultural relics. Some important cultural relics have also been well protected,such as the "four items"===white crane ridge, Shibaozhai Temple,Zhang-Fei-Tempel and memorial temple to qu yuan.

First of all ,let us know about somethingabout how the state protected historic site ---white crane ridge.white crane ridge is the top item in four items protection project of ThreeGorges Project. After ten years of repeated demonstration, the governmentadopted the protection way put forward by academician of china engineeringacademy Ge Runxiu in 2002 and built the only white crane ridge underwatermuseum in the world under 40 meters of water by building a container full of cleaned andfiltered water to reduce the pressure.

Does anyone know how the Shibaozhai Temple thatis known as one of the eight strange structures of the world was protected？According to the protecting plan, slopeprotection and mountain reinforcement were made to Shibaozhai Temple .A fendinggroyne was built in front of the door of temple, and around the temple was ahuge circle levee that shapes like a basin, thus enclosing Shibaozhai Temple.Looking at it in far distance, it is like a small potted landscape in thecenter of the river and it is very beautiful and spectacular, thus it earns areputation as "the Small Fairy Isle" in river.

When the work of preservation of culturalrelics in three gorges reservoir area was going on like a raging fire,ecological environmental protection also drew a lot of attention.

To protect theecological environment in three gorges reservoir area and force it turn into avirtuous circle, party central committee, State Council and party committeesand governments at all levels in three gorges reservoir area launched a seriesof special work, try to construct the first class water-power engineering andcreate the first class ecological environment.

As the Three GorgesProject going on, what the people in three gorges reservoir area are concerned most was that it may pollute the water.Therefore, on the one hand , threegorges reservoir did some cleaning to rubbish,  solid waste, publiclavatory, tomb, hospital, slaughter house, building, bridge and forests to guarantee the waterquality and prevent the spreading of endemic disease and infectious disease. Onthe other hand, we boost the construction of urban domestic wastewater system,garbage disposal facilities and supporting pipe network transportation systemand try to make the water quality in three gorges reservoir area reach the IIstandard.

After the ThreeGorges Project retain water fully, 560 terrestrial rare plant will be flooded.For this reason ,we will construct a nature reserve for rare and endangeredfishes and increase the protection over endangered fishes such as Chinesesturgeon. We will also do some ex situ conservation and build up some botanicalgarden reserve to save the rare and endangered plants such as adiantumreinforce and myricaria laxiflora.All the measures above can protect thediversity .

At the same time, wewill do engineering improvements and relocation by setting up a geologicaldisaster monitoring and early warning system to forecast all the possiblegeological disaster and protect life and property security of people inreservoir area after water storage. And through soil and water losscontrol and ecological barrier construction, we can make the reservoir a neweconomic region that has economic prosperity, green hills ,clean riverDuringthe process ofthe ten years of three-gorges engineering migration, the reservoir area changedgreatly.

On the two sides of channel thatlooks like gorge, we can have aquick traveling through three gorges reservoir area as if we cross the space ofhistory when we drops down the river. In front of us is the 3D traveling aroundinteraction display, and you can climb up to the fore part toenjoy thebeauty of new three gorges area from the angle of visitors.

The three gorges reservoir project have brought great changes to naturallandscape in three gorges reservoir area ,thus promoting the great-leap-forward developmentof economic society. Boundless modern migrationbuildings towered over the land. This is a comparisonpicture of reservoir town ,which shows the covered old towns and the new-builttowns.

The three gorge project , not only increase the water level of YangtzeRiver, but also increase the living standard of people in reservoir. In this annular space, we show all the changes ,such asthe migration towns, migration villages, migration roads and migration lives.The better town , the quicker transportation, the more beautiful ecology andbetter lives all show the prosperous and new scenes in three gorge reservoir area.

When the three gorge project was bringing so much comprehensive efficiency,there are still some problems left to be settled ,such as how the migrates canbecome rich steadily and how we can do the ecological environmental protectionand geological hazard control work well ,extra, all of which will have a biginfluence on the river regime, irrigation and water supplyin middle and lower Yangtze River area. Some ofthe problems have already been forecast inthedemonstration and design but still remained to be solved in later operation,some of the problems have already been realized in the construction period butcould not be settled effectively, and the others are put forward withthe developmentof economy and society. For this reason,  state council introduced 《thelater work and rules of three gorge project》 in 2011.《rules》concentrates in strategic objectives in three gorge reservoir area set in thenew period , and the priority is to make people in the area become richsteadily. At the same time, increasing the ecological environmental protectionand geological hazard control, and properly handle the influence on river regime of middle and lowerYangtze River area brought by the storage of the three gorges project.Meanwhile, we should perfect the general management system and mechanism ofthree gorge project, to enlarge the comprehensive benefits, making sure that threegorge project can operate steadily and safely for a long time and thecomprehensive benefits of it can go a long way. Under a series of nationaltargeted policies and guidelines, the eco-agriculture develops quickly , theindustrial structure becomes better, infrastructure is improving steadily andthe protection and control in ecological environment and geological disastersare increasing with the social securityof reservoir migration settlement improving.
